Children's Ministry
Promiseland is the name of our children's ministry here at ICF. Each Sunday, during our 5:00 PM celebration service, the kids stay with us during our singing. As we transition into our teaching time, we excuse the kids to go with their teachers to this specially prepared time just for them. The curriculum we use is especially designed for our pre-school and school-aged children. As they go, the kids are divided into age-appropriate groups for their crafts, games, and learning. Our Promiseland teachers are special volunteers who love what they do, and who have been specially trained and prepared for the lessons they lead. The kids can be picked up at the end of our service having been emersed in fun and spiritually enlightening experiences that are just for them. We invite you to preview the curriculum below:
Kids Corner
This is the name of our ministry to pre-school children. Each Sunday, these young children age 2-5 gather around their teacher on the "big pillows" for a great time of stories, games, and fun. What a great age to teach children of God's special love for them and to demonstrate that love in special stories and games designed especially to be effective for this age group.
Do You See Him?
Children in first through third grade (ages 6-8), have the opportunity to experience God's Story from Genesis to Revelation. As they gain an understanding of God's big picture, we also challenge them to be Fun Bible Investigators [F.B.I. Kids], on the lookout for evidence of Jesus in every story. It is filled with songs, games and fun as we grow in our relationship with God, our leaders and friends.
The children are Fun Bible Investigators (F.B.I. Kids). As part of their study, they will bring home an F.B.I. Gazette every Sunday. This will let the parent know what their child is learning in church and help deepen and strengthen their child's growing faith. Every week the Gazette will contain a 1) Lesson Overview (including the Bible reference and a Bible time line), 2) Bible Verse Activity (the verse to memorize), 3) Lesson Review (including questions for review, a Bible word to grow on, and the main Bible truth), 4) Assignments to Investigate. Every week the kids will have an assignment to investigate (one page of "homework") and a verse of scripture to memorize. If they complete the assignment for the week there is a yellow post-it on the back of the Gazette that will be signed by the parent and returned to Sunday School the next week. For completing the assignment, the child will earn one F.B.I. Buck. For memorizing the memory verse the child will earn 1 Bible memory coupon (4 Bible Memory coupons = 1 F.B.I. Buck.) The child can earn prizes after he/she earns a certain number of F.B.I. bucks.
The Edge
Grades four through five (ages 9-10) are using a curriculum from Gospel Light called “The Edge”. The Edge helps teachers develop meaningful mentoring relationships with their students that will lead to a strong foundation of faith. Based on 24 key Bible passages The Edge leads students to discover what the Bible says about popularity, success, failure, friendship, rules and more.
The Edge Offers:
- Engaging small-group activities and discussion questions
- Helpful mentoring tips in each lesson
- Posters, music and skits that capture students’ interest
By the time a child has completed Gospel Light’s The Edge curriculum he/she should be able to:
- Implement basic inductive Bible study skills
- Identify the basic theme content of selected books of the Bible
- Develop personal Bible study skills
Special Events
From time to time we prepare special events for our kids to participate in. It could be anything from a pool party to a special outreach event to the poor in the city. In addition, it is quite possible our kids will be involved in special performances such as Christmas or Easter plays and musicals. It is great to see them perform before their parents and others, and our community is richly blessed by them.
